Berlin Handgun Masters 2012

Weird experience at the range on wednesday. It looked like my front sight was crooked as I fired the gun, but after the slide returned from recoil it looked normal. It turned out I had yet another fractured Dawson Precision front sight (2nd one this year). Luckily, Anders Hatting Larsen has time to replace it thursday, and I’ve got a spare for the sight in my parts bin. Crisis averted.

Placed as no. 5 at the Berlin Handgun Masters with 79,91% – the rest of the UckFups at no. 3 & 6. I was 2 cm from a penalty-free match, but heard a ‘ding from a plate, and didn’t check that it actually fell. But apart from that a good match hit-wise. Still need more speed, though 🙂

Since the match was shot in only a half day, we spent the rest of Saturday and Sunday sightseeing in Berlin, which was very enjoyable. We’ve been going to Berlin quite often since 2005, but had never taken the time to see the city.

Dall IPSC Challenge 2012

mpb_challenge2012

Dall IPSC Challenge 2012: DONE! (well, mostly – there’s still 17 stages to tear down over the next couple of weeks) This was my first level III IPSC match as Match Director, and I’ve certainly learned a lot. I *thought* I was well prepared, but there were still things I had not managed to prepare well enough. We’ll be doing a de-brief and writing down our Lessons Learned during the next week, so we can be better prepared for next year.

Highlight of the match for me so far: finishing at 94% on stage 9 of Dall IPSC Challenge 2012, with the best time among the competitors achieving more than 40 % on the stage. This was running on only 3 hours of sleep during the pre-match. If i’d gotten a second hit on the pop-over bonus target it would probably have been a stage win 🙂

A hits: 79,45% 259
C hits: 18,10% 59
D hits: 1,53% 5
Miss: 0,92% 3
No-shoot: 0,64% 2
Stages above 70% 9 of 17
Overall finish: 74,03%

Training Trivia

Today’s training trivia: – Trying to hit a par time that’s 0,4 sec below your last recorded par is pretty hard (I read the par as 1,4 sec, instead of 1,8). I was really wondering how I’d managed to hit that time before my summer break. Still, I shaved 0,1 sec of my par, and can probably shave 0,1 further within the next couple of practice sessions. – Doing the draw-to-prone-position drill is a great way to get your heartrate up and get some rugburn on your elbows. I should do it more often, perhaps just a few reps every day.

Rooster Mountain 2012

I shot some good stages, but still need to work on the mental aspects, to avoid stupid mistakes. My month off from training probably had something to say as well. Still, it was just another lv. III, and now there’s a month of practice and mental training before the nationals.

Positive highlights from Rooster Mountain 2012: I shot almost a third of the stages close to or above 80%. I shot stage 11 (the one with all the running in the grass) very well, 83%, despite feeling like I wasn’t able to really give it full throttle – only having one C helped a bit. I shot stage 17 (the one with all the poppers) quite well – shooting the poppers on the move was the right decision. I seem to have fixed my long-range steel problem.

Gothenburg Open Nordic IPSC Championship

Back home from the Nordic Championships in IPSC Standard Division. I had a lot of fun with the squad-mates and came back with a couple of things that needs more work (mainly shooting the steel better) 🙂

And extra-special congratulations to the delightful Norah Josephsen who took the bronze medal in Nordic Championships, Standard Division, Ladies Category, – at her very first IPSC lv. III match, pretty much exactly 3 months after getting her IPSC license. Welcome aboard missy – hang on and enjoy the ride, it’s only going to get better 🙂
